Altarius Group was founded in 2006 with the setting up of our Swiss Affiliate, Altarius SA. Altarius SA concentrates on corporate and investment solutions to asset and independent wealth managers, investment advisors and specialized service providers across Europe and the EEA. In 2008, Altarius Asset Management was established and further obtained a Category Investment Services Licence by the Malta Financial Services Authority. The Group kept on growing with the setting up of our German Affiliate, Altarius GmBH and our UK Office, Altarius UK Ltd. The organisation’s goal is to provide services to support clients to invest in a regulated, professional and efficient environment.
Altarius' European AIFM licence is used to set up and monitor bespoke funds and managed accounts or to provide solutions for new technology investments in an ever-evolving environment. The Management Company (ManCo) comes as a one-stop solution, through which clients can focus on their investments while Altarius takes care of all legal, administrative, regulatory and investment management matters.
Altarius’ main operation is based in its Maltese office. Malta is positioned as a recognised financial services and fintech centre in the EU. It hosts and attracts a variety of financial services businesses and structures including Professional Investor Funds (PIFs), Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), Fund Managers and Fund Administrators.
With its first office based in Geneva in 2006, Altarius is nowadays present in Europe’s major financial hubs.

Altarius Group CEO
Pierre is a founding partner and CEO of Altarius Group. After graduating from Boston College in 1989, where he received a Master of Science in Finance, he worked in the Capital Markets Division of Société Générale as an equity derivatives trader. He then moved to London, taking responsibility at Banque Paribas and then at Bank of America as head of fund derivatives EMEA. Finally, Pierre joined Refco Alternative Investments as head of Europe and as a member of senior management. Pierre is a member of the board of Geneva-based Altarius SA, which he founded in 2006. He is also a board member of Munich based Altarius GmbH which he founded in 2010.
Managing Director Altarius GmbH & Board Member Altarius Group
Heinz is the Managing Director of Altarius GmbH and a founding partner of the Altarius Group. He graduated from the University of Linz, Austria in 1993 where he studied business informatics. He worked initially as a market-maker registered with the Vienna Stock Exchange and trader with the Austrian bank Allgemeine Sparkasse Oberoesterreich. From 1999 to 2010 he was the Managing Director of Absolute Plus AG in Munich a company specializing in the setup and distribution of alternative investments, in absolute return strategies. Heinz is an executive director of several hedge funds.
Managing Director Altarius Asset
Bjorn Grech is the Managing Director of Altarius Asset Management, Ltd. Amongst other responsibilities, he is responsible for the operations of the Malta office. Prior joining Altarius in 2017, Bjorn formed part of a big-four audit firm, following which he spent the rest of his career within the Funds and Asset Management space. Bjorn acted as Head of Fund Services for two MFSA recognised fund administrators and as Head of Fund Accounting and Member of Valuation Committee within an AIFM having offices in Malta and the UK. Bjorn holds a Bachelors of Accountancy Honors Degree from the University of Malta and a Diploma in Fund Administration from the University of Manchester.

Marcel Coppini is a UK qualified accountant and warranted auditor, with a diversified and accomplished 35-year career. He spent a number of years in the audit practice, then moved to top executive positions with heavily regulated entities, after which he returned back to audit as an Audit Regulator in 2006. Mr. Coppini spearheaded the setting up of the Quality Assurance process in Malta and was the CEO of the Quality Assurance unit for 10 years. During this period, he was also actively involved in the EU regulatory process and formed part of a number of committees entrusted with the setting up of Public Oversight across Europe. For six years Marcel was an elected member of the International Assembly of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) UK. He joined the board of Altarius Asset Management Limited as a non-executive independent director in August 2017.
Head of Accounting
Edward Mangion joined Altarius Asset Management as Head of Accounting in 2016. He is responsible for the accounting operations, periodic financial reports and budgets.
Prior joining Altarius in 2016 Mr Mangion was part of an audit, accountancy and tax advisory firm for five years and was responsible for a wide range of clients across a portfolio of industry sectors.
Edward holds a Diploma in Management and a Diploma in Finance. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Malta Institute of Accountants.
Mr Toni Krastev joined Altarius shortly after completing his studies at the University of Malta in 2014. Initially, Mr Krastev oversaw trading on behalf of CISs managed by the company via various trading platforms and currently he is responsible for the operations of the funds, overseeing the daily activity and performing the day-to-day tasks. Mr Krastev is also pursuing the CFA charter.
After graduating from the prestigious Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in 2016, Lucas worked in small companies and organisations supporting startups in the fields of business development and marketing. Exploring how innovation can be brought through tech, Lucas is in touch with activities related to digital and blockchain/ crypto applications.
His skills include digital solutions, marketing & communications, events, growth and business development.
